The Hagia Sophia Virgin Mosaic Vase represents the mosaic found in the Hagia Sophia apse, depicting the Virgin Mary sitting on a throne with the baby Jesus in her lap. According to the latest research, its date of probable origin is thought to be the era of the Byzantine Empress Eirene, between 787 and 815. The mosaic was retrieved intact after the devastating earthquake that occurred in the mid 14th century. The Hagia Sophia Virgin Mosaic Vase is of handmadeglass and its decorative reliefs have also been produced by hand, plated with 24-carat gold, each mosaic piece painted with a special glass paint. The production of the Hagia Sophia Virgin Mosaic Vase is limited to 1000 pieces.
